It has an engraved gold hilt with carved ivory grips. The scabbard is covered in black fish-skin with gold mountings. The 32-inch blade is marked 'VR'. Both swords have a very gentle curve. Fig 22: Forage cap and belt Officer's forage cap, pouch and shoulder belt, circa 1890. All are of scarlet cloth with gold lace and ornaments. The crown on the pouch also has some silver embroidery. 39 Fig 23: Patrol Jacket Worn by officers in undress from 1876 to 1904. The jacket was dark blue cloth, edged in black Astrakhan, and laced and braided with black mohair of the regimental pattern ('Austrian Wave').

The blue undress jacket had a 3-inch deep collar ornamented with broad and narrow silver lace. Down the front were five decorated silver cord loops with roses on each side and a centre row of olivets. There was an edging of silver cord around the jacket and broad and narrow silver cord trimmed the cuffs, hips and welts. The blue cloth pelisse had a 4-inch deep fur collar and 3-inch fur cuffs. It was edged in fur with inlets of fur on the sleeves and welts. The decoration of silver lace was similar to that on the jacket and it carried neck lines and slides in silver.
